For some patients with erectile dysfunction all other forms of treatment for ED prove to be unusable or ineffective and these patients are then offered the choice of having a penile implant inserted to solve their impotence problems. The penile implants are offered as a final resort as they do require a surgical operation and thus the dangers associated with penis implant surgery such as infections although small are always present. (Doctors always try non invasive treatments before surgical options.)

There are three different types of penile implants available and the erectile disfunction implant costs of each type of implant vary due to the complexity of the devices. The cost of the erectile disfunction implants, the surgery and aftercare can vary from $10,000 to $20,000. You will need to discuss the actual cost of the erectile disfunction penile implants with your specialist to get a more accurate quote – remember to ask him or her if the price they give you covers your hospital stay and other treatment or just the cost of the erectile disfunction implant and the surgery.

Penis Implant Surgery Is Usually Covered By Health Insurance

The costs associated with penile implant surgery for impotence are normally covered by all of the leading health insurance companies, although patients may have to make some form of co-payment. Again you should check with your medical insurance provider to assess your coverage and the costs if any of your co-payment before your surgery.

There Are Three Types Of Penis Implants

As previously stated there are three different types of penis implants currently available and the erectile disfunction implant costs of each of these options differ. We will briefly discuss the three implants so that you can see the differences between them. The first type of implant is a three piece inflatable implant – these implants are the newest form and are considered to be the most technologically advanced.

The three piece inflatable implant is also the most expensive of the implants available. This implant consists of a pump and two inflatable cylinders; the pump is placed inside the patient’s scrotum and can be used to inflate or deflate the cylinders by moving a saline solution into or out of them. The filling of the cylinders with the saline solution is what causes the erection.

The Second Type Of Penile Implant Surgery

The second type of erectile disfunction implant is a two piece inflatable implant, the main difference between this implant and the first one is that the pump only fills the cylinders it does not remove the saline. In order for a patient’s penis to return to a flaccid state he must gently bend it down and hold it in this position for 6 -12 seconds to allow the saline to drain from the cylinders back into the pump. This implant is the middle priced option.

The final and cheapest penile implant is a malleable (positionable) penile implant. This implant consists of two silicone coated rods that contain either a stainless steel or interlocking plastic jointed core. The patient then bends his penis into an erected position or back down into a flaccid position manually. This implant does not allow a penis to be naturally flaccid as the other two implants do.
